I was born on the east coast, New Jersey, to be exact. When I was six years old, my family moved to Southern California. I went to elementary school, junior high school and high school in Covina, California. Growing up in Southern California has made me a big fan of the beach. That's where I like to spend my relaxation time.
Education
I started my college career at UC Davis thinking I wanted to head in the direction of nutrition. But I missed Southern California and ended up graduating from California Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. I graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies and went on to earn my multiple subject teaching credential for elementary education. Later, I earned my Administrative credential at Simpson University in Redding, California.
Career
I began my teaching career in 4th and 5th grade in La Puente, California. I also spent a few years teaching in the GATE program for 4th, 5th and 6th grades. After moving to Redding, I taught 3rd grade at Boulder Creek, served as the Site Literacy Teacher at both Lassen View and Parsons for 8 years. Next, I worked as an Assistant Principal at Parsons, Mistletoe and Boulder Creek before becoming the principal at Lassen View. I've enjoyed working as an educator for over 25 years.
Personal Life
After my first year of teaching, I married my husband, Nathan Emerson, in 1986. We have two daughters who went to elementary school at Lassen View, Parsons Jr. High and Enterprise High School. We are a basketball family and enjoy attending all sporting events. I'm an avid reader, love hiking, and boating and traveling around the world. My passion in life is to help others discover their gifts and talents so they can make the world a better place.
